Crackers as a bread substitute?

I have to have something toast-ish to go with an omelet, and dishes with rice always go so much nicer with something crunchy on the side. That’s a big part of my diet; I need to lose weight, and of course need to cut back on carbs; how does substituting crackers for bread work out – are they more calorie dense in of themselves? I swear eating 4 Triscuits is about as filling as a piece of toast.

I buy better stuff if I can – Trader Joe’s cracker selection is good, and I get tostadas from Mexican grocers, who get stuff that’s made well – much better than the Guerreros the supermarkets sell.
